The Athletic News of 28 April 1889 reported that the Essex County Cricket Club held a spring athletic and bicycle race meet at the County Ground, Leyton on Saturday 11th May 1889. The top event was a 1 mile handicap race for Ordinary (penny farthing) machines, with a first prize of ten guineas and a gold medal if the rider broke the existing grass track record of 2m 46.4s. Other races were 1 mile safety handicap and 1 mile Novices handicap (safeties and ordinaries). The handicapper was HH Griffin.

The ground is now used by Leyton County Cricket Club.
